More than 22,000 job offers
"The aim of the measures is for all Ukrainians fleeing the war and choosing Portugal as their destination to be immediately "with all the situation regularized, including automatic registration with social security and the health system," said the Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, Ana Mendes Godinho, after a meeting of European Union Ministers of Employment and Social Affairs in Brussels, with the aim of addressing the responses that each country is giving to the situation experienced by refugees from Ukraine after the invasion by Russia.
Ana Mendes Godinho informed her counterparts of what has been done in Portugal, "especially in terms of creating conditions so that people are immediately integrated as soon as they arrive" in the country.
Registration and protection platform for Ukrainian children
The Minister highlighted the programme launched by the Government "for the monitoring and protection of unaccompanied children, a cross-cutting problem that all countries are facing".
"Our concern is to ensure that we have a system for monitoring and protecting children and also for identifying families who are available to receive children in an accompanied and controlled manner," he said.
Portugal launched ‘an online platform, as it is preparing a telephone line’, to ‘be available for any doubts that arise and to keep up with the situation’.
More than 22,000 job offers
The Minister met with ministers from ‘frontline countries receiving more refugees’, Romania, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary to articulate responses such as on displacement of people and information sharing.
At the moment we have more than 22,000 job offers already loaded in about a week, and Portuguese courses have started for Ukrainian refugees who have registered in Portugal. Sessions are already taking place precisely for learning Portuguese and there have already been employment contracts concluded last week," he said.
Job vacancies are mainly in the areas of technology, tourism, construction, industry and the social sector.
According to the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF), Portugal has already granted around 7,225 applications for temporary protection to people coming from Ukraine as a result of the war situation.
