Old-age pension can now be applied for online this month
The process of awarding pensions will be faster. Lower pensions have already increased by 10 euros since January
It was approved on Council of Ministers, a law that will allow Social Security to act more quickly in the payment of pensions, implementing the Simplex project ‘Pensão na Hora’. According to the law, old-age pensions can now be claimed directly from the Direct Social Security. If the beneficiaries meet the criteria for granting the provisional pension, the amount of the pension will be communicated at the time of application. The Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, Ana Mendes Godinho, stated that, with this amendment, "we will have the whole process of granting old-age pension processed online, through the Direct Social Security" and "to have, from the outset, an automatic deferral in the old-age pension". "This is a radical change and will be implemented in the Direct Social Security system online" during the month of February, added the Minister. Extraordinary pension update The extraordinary pension update provided for in the State Budget Law for 2021 was also regulated. This is the fifth consecutive extraordinary update and provides for a 10 euro monthly increase in the value of the pension, ensuring a real gain in purchasing power for pensioners with lower pension incomes. This extraordinary update takes effect in January 2021, covering invalidity, old-age and survivors’ pensioners of the Social Security system, as well as pensioners by retirement, retirement and survivors of the convergent social protection scheme, whose total amount of pensions is equal to or less than 1.5 times the value of the Social Support Index (IAS) in force (or EUR 658.2). The update has already been paid, with retroactive effect to January, to the pensioners of the National Pension Center and will be paid this Friday, the 19th, to the pensioners of the CGA. Ana Mendes Godinho said that this measure covers 1.9 million people. The extraordinary updates have guaranteed pensioners with pensions of up to 1.5 IAS an increase of between €420 and €700 since 2015.
