Government extends extraordinary support to most vulnerable families
€60 per household
O Council of Ministers approved the extension of the support of 60 euros to the most vulnerable families, as announced by the Prime Minister, António Costa, in the debate on the general policy of the legislature, in the Assembly of the Republic. This support was created to mitigate the impact of rising food prices.
At the press conference following the Council of Ministers, the Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, Ana Mendes Godinho, explained that extraordinary support to mitigate the price increase in food had already been paid in April and May.
"The measure will be re-implemented in the same way and in July this support will be paid to households that are beneficiaries of the social energy tariff and in August to beneficiaries of minimum social benefits, which have not been covered by the July support".
The support will thus cover "the same universe of aggregates in April and May, which means one million and seventy thousand aggregates in July and August," she added.
The extraordinary support was announced in March and paid for the first time in April to all households benefiting from the social electricity tariff, and in May the measure was extended to all households where at least one element holds minimum social benefits, even if they do not benefit from the social electricity tariff, thus totalling more than one million beneficiary households.
The amount of the extraordinary support is 60 euros per household and is paid at one time, being its allocation by the automatic Social Security.
The measure will have an associated cost of EUR 64 million.
The extraordinary support for the most vulnerable households was announced in March by the government and aims to compensate for the increase in the prices of basic necessities due to the Russian aggression against Ukraine.
