Government approves Strategy for the Digital Transformation of Public Administration 2021-2026

The Council of Ministers approved this Thursday, 26 August, the Strategy for the Digital Transformation of Public Administration 2021-2026 and its Transversal Action Plan for the period 2021-2023, on a proposal from the "Council for Information and Communication Technologies in Public Administration" (ICT).

The Strategy for the Digital Transformation of Public Administration 2021-2026 aims to make public administration more responsive to the expectations of citizens and businesses by providing simpler, more integrated and inclusive services, operating in a more efficient, smarter and more transparent way, by exploiting the transformative potential of digital technologies and the smart use of data. This Plan is aligned with the reforms and objectives of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP) and contributes to the overall coherence of investment in the framework of the digital transition of the Public Administration.

The implementation of the ICT 2020 Strategy, which precedes the one now approved, had more than 700 completed projects, representing an investment of around €300 million with which it was possible to achieve an impact of around €720 million in benefits and savings (ICT and non-ICT). That is, there were net benefits of more than 420 million euros.

It is estimated that the implementation of this Digital Transition Strategy in Public Administration for the period 2021-2026, whose investments, aligned with the RPP, amount to around €600 million, will provide direct gains for the national economy, at least in the same proportion.
