The National Strategy for the Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities 2021-2025 (ENIPD 2021-2025), the first to be approved after the European Disability Strategy, was approved in March during the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The ENIPD 2021-2025 focuses on a global and cross-cutting approach to the articulation of public policies, which is addressed to all persons with disabilities, understood in their heterogeneity, as well as their families, and which defines eight strategic axes of intervention:
- citizenship, equality and non-discrimination;
- promoting an inclusive environment;
- education and qualification;
- work, employment and vocational training;
- promoting autonomy and independent living;
- social measures, services and support;
- culture, sport, tourism and leisure;
- knowledge, research, innovation and development.
The ENIPD 2021-2025 aims to consolidate the progress achieved so far and look to the future, always with a view to strengthening the commitment to the inclusion of persons with disabilities, assumed by the XXII Constitutional Government as one of the priorities of its government action and as a corollary of a society that wants to be fairer, more supportive, that respects diversity and sees it as a factor of wealth and progress.
