Second edition of the National Council of Children and Youth (CNCJ)

The National Commission for the Promotion of the Rights and Protection of Children and Youth (CNPDPCJ) is launching the second edition of the National Council of Children and Youth (CNCJ).

If you want to make your opinions, concerns, needs and expectations heard, and participate in public decision-making, apply for this initiative!

The National Commission is a reference entity for the effective implementation of the Rights of all children and young people in Portugal, in particular with regard to the right to participation, enshrined in Article 12 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (perhaps link to the child-friendly versions, published).

The main objectives of the CNCJ are:

  • Promote access to new spaces for social and political participation for children and young people;
  • Develop communication, interpersonal and critical thinking skills in children and young people;
  • Provide dialogue between children and young people and policy makers;
  • Train and sensitize the participants on the topics addressed in the CNPDPCJ, namely the Rights of the Child.

This initiative is aimed at all children and young people living in the national territory, aged between 8 and 15 years, aiming to reach children from the most diverse contexts and social realities.

Applications will run from 20 November 2023 to 20 January 2024 and the term of office of the selected members and advisers will be 3 years, from June 2024 to June 2027.
