ACT inspected 1,000 companies in national action on telework

Between 3 and 7 January, the Authority for Working Conditions carried out a national inspection to verify compliance with the obligation to telework and the delayed organisation of the hours of entry and exit from the workplace, following the decisions taken by the Government to minimise the risk of transmission of COVID-19.

A total of 973 companies and 1,093 workplaces were inspected by ACT inspectors, covering a total of 14,000 workers. 294 irregular situations have been detected and 54% of them have been corrected so far.

Among the 294 offences, the most frequent were related to matters of safety and health at work, exposure to biological agents, organisation of working time or minimum safety requirements at the workplace. Only six infringements were detected concerning non-compliance with mandatory teleworking.

In total, 103 inspection procedures were adopted and nine administrative offence proceedings were initiated, with a penalty frame that can go up to a maximum of 40.5 thousand euros.

It was in the district of Lisbon that the largest number of companies visited was concentrated (20.8% of the total), followed by the district of Porto (with 14.5%), Braga (9.7%) and Setúbal (9.4%).

This national action, developed by the ACT on the mainland and in all sectors of activity, involved the participation of 298 labour inspectors from all deconcentrated services. The action was targeted at workplaces based on non-compliance risk indicators as well as existing complaints/requests for action.
